Horseshoe Magnets

Horseshoe Magnets are recognized as the universal symbol for magnets and magnetism. They are typically made of Alnico, a non-corrosive alloy able to withstand extremely high temperatures. Alnico magnets are created from aluminium (Al), nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co). While Alnico magnets are not as strong as Neodymium and Ferrite magnets, they are less fragile and therefore more durable than the others. Alnico magnets, when shaped like a horseshoe, are very popular with schools and science departments to demonstrate magnetism and magnetic fields. These small but strong horseshoe magnets are also very useful for retrieving small steel parts and screws from places that can be difficult to reach.

NOTE: The dimensions for our Horseshoe Magnets are Height (mm) x Width (mm) x Depth (mm).

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
